The academic year 2020 – 2021 was abruptly stopped when COVID19 arrived on San Pedro. The situation was monitored by the Ministry of Health and Education and many attempts to re-open were crushed by the rising number of cases in the country.
Finally, in the early April the Government of Belize announced that the re- opening of schools had been approved but was dependent on an application and inspection process. Our school had been working on a plan for the re- opening and soon we were ready for inspection. Hard work payed off and approval was granted for the re- opening of Holy Cross Anglican School.
With approval granted, all that was left was to put our school plan into action. The first and most important step was to hold a P.T.A meeting. The meeting was no ordinary one, since all COVID19 protocol had to be followed. The meeting was done by division, to avoided overcrowding and to ensure the 6 feet apart protocols was respected. Parents were introduced to the shift system that would be implemented. Guidelines for the reopening were shared in both Spanish and English.
The attendance at meeting was great with a very good amount of parents attending. The spirt of the meeting was of excitement and positivity because after one year of being out of school on May 10, 2021 our classrooms would finally be occupied with excited children
